Yoga Instructor/ Retreat Facilitator/Bereaved mother
Amelia is a yoga teacher, retreat facilitator, author and mother from Winnipeg, Canada. She is also the creator of PranaVidaStyle.com, a unique line of inspired and custom-designed yoga apparel made in Canada. Her love of yoga began in 2007, when she found her way to her first yoga class as an anxious, insomniac university student. Ever since, deepening her understanding of yoga has been her passion and life’s calling. In 2010 received her 500hr Moksha yoga teacher training certification in Montreal, and in 2012 her Level 2 Moksha yoga certification in Costa Rica. She has also studied Vinyasa yoga with Seane Corn, Shiva Rea, Ryan Leier, and Dillon Cherrett, Yin yoga with Joe Barnett, and pre/postnatal with Darlene Sveinson and Liane Cherrett. She loves to offer yoga in a way that is therapeutic, creative and accessible to all levels.
Amelia’s life took an unexpected turn in July 2014, when her first-born baby Landon passed away at 4 days old, due to unexpected complications during his birth. Thrown into an intensity of pain beyond what she’d ever imagined possible, she started sharing her story on social media to help her heal and create something beautiful of Landon’s short life. The first year of this journey is documented on her Instagram account @ameliakyoga (#LandonsLegacy and #LandonsLegacyRetreat) and Tumblr blog and is compiled in her book Landon’s Legacy, available soon in video, ebook and print.
After Landon died, she attended a retreat at Kripalu with somatic psychotherapist and yoga teacher Antonio Sausys, author of Yoga For Grief Relief, where she found healing in the meditation, pranayama, talk therapy and relaxation techniques taught there. The Healing Heart Yoga she offers at the retreat integrates some of these practices and her own personal experience of moving through grief and trauma, with the intention of helping others to heal in body, mind and spirit. She also shares her passion for journalling a means of creative expression and emotional/psycho-spiritual healing.
